For a user to access a telephony server from a client computer, the client computer must be configured with the name of the server (or servers) to access.
Membership in the local Administrators group, or equivalent, is the minimum required to complete this procedure.
On computers running Windows Vista, Windows Server 2008, Windows XP, or Windows Server 2003
Add the Windows Remote Service Provider to your clients. The Windows Remote Service Provider enables clients to detect telephony servers and then configure themselves with the telephony server names.
To add the Remote Service Provider on a telephony client |
-
Open Phone and Modem Options in Control Panel. To do so, click Start, and then click Control Panel. Click Hardware and Sound, and then click Phone and Modem Options.
-
If this is the first time opening this Control Panel item, the Location Information window appears. Fill in the details appropriate for your location, and then click OK.
-
On the Advanced tab, click Add.
-
In the Add Provider dialog box, under Telephony providers, select Microsoft Windows Remote Service Provider, and then click Add.
On computers running Windows 2000
To specify telephony servers on a client computer |
-
Open a Command Prompt window.
-
Type the command: tcmsetup /c server1 server2 …
Additional considerations
- The client must be in the same domain as the
telephony server, or in a domain that has a two-way trust
relationship with the domain of the telephony server, when you run
tcmsetup.
- In the tcmsetup command-line syntax,
server1 server2 ... represents the names of one or
more telephony servers. Because tcmsetup replaces any
previous server list, make sure that you include every telephony
server that you want available to the client when you run
tcmsetup.
- For more information about tcmsetup,
see Using the
TcmSetup Command-Line Tool.
- You may have to restart the Telephony service
for this change to take effect.
- Before client users can dial out using the
phone lines on the telephony server, the telephony server
administrator must assign the users to the phone lines. For more
information, see Assign a Telephony User
to a Line or a Phone.
