To add a group to an NIS domain
A group identifier (GID) is automatically assigned to the group. If your NIS domain has special requirements for GID values, you can change the assigned value.

To add a group to an NIS domain |

Open Active Directory Users and Computers.
To open Active Directory Users and Computers, click Start, point to Administrative Tools, and then click Active Directory Users and Computers.
You can also open Active Directory Users and Computers from within Server Manager, by expanding Roles and then Active Directory Domain Services in the hierarchy pane, and then selecting Active Directory Users and Computers.

In the console tree, click the Users folder.

In the details pane, right-click the group you want to add to the NIS domain, and then click Properties.

Click the UNIX Attributes tab.

In the NIS Domain list, click the domain to which you want to add the group.

To save the changes and keep the dialog box open, click Apply. To save the changes and close the dialog box, click OK.

There is no command-line method for this procedure. The name of the group must comply with UNIX naming conventions. It must contain only lowercase alphabetic and numeric characters, no more than eight characters, and at least one alphabetic character. It must not include either a colon (:) or a newline character. |
