To create and configure virtual machines on a Remote Desktop Virtualization Host (RD Virtualization Host) server, use the Hyper-V Manager tool. For more information about creating virtual machines by using the Hyper-V Manager tool, see the Hyper-V Getting Started Guide.
Configure the operating system on the virtual machine
The virtual machines that users access through RemoteApp and Desktop Connection can be running any of the following operating systems: Windows 7, Windows Vista, or Windows XP.

The name of the virtual machine in the Hyper-V Manager tool must match the fully qualified domain name (FQDN) of the computer. |
After you have created the virtual machine and installed an operating system, you must configure the operating system of the virtual machine so that it can be used as a virtual desktop in RemoteApp and Desktop Connection. You must do the following:
- Join the computer to an Active Directory
domain.
- Enable Remote Desktop.
- Configure the local Remote Desktop Users
group. Each user who needs access to the virtual machine must be a
member of the local Remote Desktop Users group.
- Add the computer account for the
RD Virtualization Host server to the local
Administrators group.
- Install the latest integration services for
Hyper-V. For more information, see the Hyper-V Getting Started Guide. Windows 7 includes
the latest integration services for Hyper-V.
- Configure Windows Firewall to allow an
exception for Remote Desktop and Remote Service Management.
- Set the value for the registry entry
AllowRemoteRPC to 1. This registry entry is located in the
following subkey:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Terminal
Server.
