An RD Session Host server is the server that hosts Windows-based programs or the full Windows desktop for Remote Desktop Services clients. Users can connect to an RD Session Host server to run programs, to save files, and to use network resources on that server. Users can access an RD Session Host server by using Remote Desktop Connection or by using RemoteApp.
This checklist provides tasks that an administrator needs to complete to install and configure an RD Session Host server.
Please note the following:
- Installing the RD Session Host role
service requires the computer to be restarted.
- Installing the RD Session Host role
service on an Active Directory domain controller is not
recommended. For more information, see Installing RD Session

- You should install the RD Session Host
role service on the computer before you install any programs that
you want to make available to users. For more information, see
