You can use this procedure to open activated policies by using the Wireless Network (IEEE 802.11) Policies extension of Group Policy Management.

Membership in Domain Admins, or equivalent, is the minimum required to complete this procedure.

To open an activated policy by using Wireless Network (IEEE 802.11) Policies
  1. On your domain controller running Windows Server 2008 do one of the following:

    • If Group Policy Management Editor is already open, proceed to step 2.

    • If Group Policy Management Editor is not already open, do the following:

      1. Click Start, point to Administrative Tools, and then click Group Policy Management. Group Policy Management opens.

      2. In the left pane, double-click your forest. For example, double-click Forest: example.com.

      3. In the left pane, double-click Domains, and then double-click the domain that contains the Group Policy object (GPO) you want to manage. For example, double-click example.com.

      4. Right-click the GPO you want to manage, and then click Edit. For example, right-click Default Domain Policy, and then click Edit. Group Policy Management Editor opens.

        Note

The GPO that you select must be the same GPO that you specified when you activated the Wireless Network (IEEE 802.11) Policies.

  2. In Group Policy Management Editor, in the left pane, open Computer Configuration, open Policies, open Windows Settings, open Security Settings, and then select either Wired Network (IEEE 802.3) Policies or Wireless Network (IEEE 802.11) Policies, depending on which policies you want to configure.

  3. In the details pane, right-click one of the following, and then click Properties:

    • New Wired Network Policy for computers running Windows 7, Windows Vista, or Windows XP with Service Pack 3 that use 802.1X authenticated wired connections on your network.

    • New Wireless Network Policy for computers running Windows 7 or Windows Vista that use 802.1X authenticated wireless connections on your network.

    • New XP Wireless Network Policy for computers running Windows XP that use 802.1X authenticated wireless connections on your network.

The properties dialog box for the policy you selected opens.

The wired and wireless network policies are not necessarily named New Wired Network Policy, New Wireless Network Policy or New XP Wireless Network Policy in the details pane of the Group Policy Management Editor. If the default policy name was previously changed to another name, the name change is reflected in the Group Policy Management Editor details pane. However, Wireless Network (IEEE 802.11) policies are differentiated with the Type specified as either Vista or XP.
