The default message body value is the size of the buffer that the Message Queuing Triggers service allocates for an incoming message. It is best to set this value equal to a size that will accommodate 90 percent of all messages that are expected to arrive in monitored queues. If you set this value too small, it forces the service to reallocate these buffers for every message. If you set it too large, an excessive amount of memory is allocated.

To change default configuration values for triggers

  1. Open Computer Management.

  2. In the console tree, double-click Message Queuing, and then right-click Triggers.

    • Computer Management/Services and Applications/Message Queuing/Triggers

  3. Click Properties, and then change the values in Initial number of threads, Max number of threads, and Default message body size as needed.

Additional considerations

  • To open Computer Management on Windows® 7, click Start, right-click Computer, and then click Manage.

  • To open Computer Management on Windows Server® 2008 R2, click Start, click All Programs, click Administrative Tools, and then click Computer Management.

  • All configuration information, trigger definitions, and rule definitions are stored in the local registry.
