The administrative tool for the SMTP Server feature is the Internet Information Services (IIS) 6.0 Manager. The IIS 6.0 Manager is implemented as a Microsoft Management Console (MMC). It can perform all operation tasks and requires a local area network (LAN) connection. For instructions about how to start Microsoft Management Console, see Start Microsoft Management Console.

This administration tool is installed by default on the computer running the SMTP Server feature.

To manage the SMTP Server by using Microsoft Management Console from a remote computer, you must be using a computer running Windows Server 2008, add the IIS 6.0 Manager snap-in to MMC, and connect to the computer you want to manage.

Note:
You must grant operators the appropriate permissions to operate the SMTP Server feature. For more information, see Set Security Options.
