You can pause a Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP) virtual server for configuration changes and maintenance. Pausing prevents new client connections. However, it enables the virtual server to continue to process existing client connections and delivering queued messages.
Procedure
To pause an SMTP virtual server
-
In Microsoft Management Console, expand the tree structure for the SMTP virtual server.
For instructions about how to start Microsoft Management Console, see Start Microsoft Management Console.
-
Click to select the SMTP virtual server.
-
On the Action menu, click Pause.
