You can use Administrative Tools to configure the default state of the SMTP service at startup.

Procedure

To change the default startup settings

  1. Click Start, point to Administrative Tools, and then click Services.

  2. In the console tree, select Services (local).

  3. In the results pane, right-click Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP), and then click Properties.

  4. On the General tab, under Startup type, select Automatic (Delayed Start), Automatic, Manual, or Disabled.
