Use the Outbound Connections dialog box to configure settings for outgoing connections on this SMTP virtual server. The following options are available on the Outbound Connections dialog box:
- Limit number of connections to

Configure this setting to specify the maximum number of concurrent outbound connections to all remote domains. The check box is selected by default, and the default limit is 1,000. The minimum value is 1 connection. Clear the check box to impose no limit on the number of outbound connections.
- Time-out (minutes)

Configure this setting to specify how long the SMTP virtual server will wait for a response from the receiving server before the connection times out. By default, the value of this setting is 10 minutes. If a connection is inactive for the designated number of minutes, Windows Server 2008 SMTP Server closes it.
- Limit number of connections per domain to

Configure this setting to specify the maximum number of concurrent outbound connections to any single remote domain. By default, the value is set to 100. The value should be less than or equal to the value that you set for Limit number of connections to.
- TCP port

Configure this setting to specify the TCP port that is used for outbound SMTP transmissions. The default setting is port 25. This is the SMTP standard TCP port.
