Windows Server 2008 SMTP Server uses Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP) to transport and deliver messages according to specifications in Request for Comments (RFC) 2821 and RFC 2822. Messages are transferred between remote mail servers and the Drop directory designated for the default domain. SMTP Server is designed to provide quick turnaround on connections to maximize messages-per-second processing.
