By default, IIS 7.5 is not installed on Windows Server® 2008 R2. You can install IIS 7.5IIS by using the Add Roles wizard in Server Manager or by using the command line.
When you install Windows Server 2008 R2, you can perform a Server Core installation, which installs a minimal server installation of Windows Server 2008 R2. For example, with this type of installation the traditional Windows interface is not installed, so you must configure the server from the command prompt.

You can perform this procedure using the user interface (UI) or a script.
Using the UI |

Click Start, point to Administrative Tools and then click Server Manager.

In Roles Summary, click Add Roles.

Use the Add Roles Wizard to add the Web server role.

If you use the Add Roles Wizard to install IIS, you get the default installation, which has a minimum set of role services. If you need additional IIS role services, such as Application Development or Health and Diagnostics, make sure to select the check boxes associated with those features in the Select Role Services page of the wizard. |

To Install IIS 7.5 on Windows Server 2008 R2 using a Server Core installation
If you want to install IIS 7 components that rely on the .NET Framework, you must first install the .NET Framework. The components that rely on the .NET Framework will not be installed if the .NET Framework is not already installed.
