You can use Internet Explorer® Maintenance (IEM) in Group Policy to edit a Group Policy object (GPO) to customize and manage Internet Explorer. The settings that you create for Internet Explorer will be updated the next time the GPO is applied to your organization. If your users later customize the settings, their settings may be overwritten each time you refresh the GPO.

By default, the customized settings created using IEM are not policies. To create policies using IEM, you must enable the Internet Explorer Maintenance policy processing setting in Group Policy.

Important

If you do not enable this policy, your users will lose the settings applied by IEM if you apply any customized settings through IEM and then use the Reset Internet Explorer Settings feature in Internet Explorer.
